Podcast: Seriously, Who Cares About Red Cups and Christmas Trees?
Recently, social media has been filled with chatter about Starbucks removal of secular, non religious symbols, from their seasonal red cups. But who cares if the red cups don't have Christmas trees, snow flakes, or candy canes on them?
If Christians really want to get upset, how about it being over an issue that actually has to do with what we believe? Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO, has made it very clear that Christians with conservative views on marriage are not welcomed as share holders or even in his stores. Now why doesn't this make Christians raise an eyebrow?
I think we are having the wrong discussions and fighting the wrong fight. Christmas trees on a Red cup has nothing to do with celebrating Christ, as cute as those cups may be. But saying we don't want conservative Christians or their investment in this company is a reason to give Starbucks a push back.
