Are the Whites To Pay For This Too

In a few days we will celebrate Black History Month. However, one of the greatest tragedies of the African American community has unfolded. One of the most profound figures in the history of African Americans is at the center of this unfolding tragedy. No, not because he said something crazy or admitted to a secret pass.

What should be a gross embarrassment to African Americans, may have been just a slight breeze of uncomfort for many. As a matter of fact, it you where not really listening you might have said, "Oh, well. That's sad."

If you've been watching those stupid reality shows, then I'm sure you missed the story all together.

Non the less, it should have been the biggest story of the black community. The Possible Selling of the King Center! Please, tell me you at lest heard about the story.

What I find so tragic is that we have how many rich "bling bling" entertainers walking around talking about which of their five cars they are going to drive to BK. You mean that we can't get 30 entertainers to raise $11 million? What about all of the self appointed political activist and politicians? Can they not rally the community together to raise the funds to save this great memorial? Instead of running to Venezuela to stand with Chavez and run down your country or sending money to the Middle East to fund terrorist, why not put that zeal and resource to saving a piece of Black History?

I know there where a lot of people, especial entertainers, saying how the handling of Katrina was a tactic ploy to rid America of black people. But I don't remember seeing that many famous blacks taking part in the rescue effort - not even on BET.

When do we see these same loud mouths saying, "we can't get enough government support. That's ok! We can do this ourselves." It's easy to say what others are not doing, because it keeps people from seeing what you are not doing. Why don't these celebrities who have a beef on their shoulder go back into the community and support the organizations in the community who are making a difference? Is it always the governments job to support and change the community when that has never worked before?

Don't get mad when rich Euro-Americans give to their community. It's their people. That's what people do. They give and support their own. Hispanics do it. Asians do it. Jews do it. So why can't African Americans do it more?

Look at Oprah and Cosby - they get richer the more they give. But they should not have to bear the whole of the community. There are more that two wealthy Black Americans alive today. You take the entertainers and the everyday working people, get them to be financially responsible and you have a community that supports itself.

I guess I'm just tired of hearing my community talk about what others, meanig "white folks", are not doing. Ok! So what are you doing, by the way?

Let's start taking responsibility for our own.
